What does life path 9 mean?
The 9 is read as the number of endings and of scale: the habit of seeing a situation as part of something larger, and the difficulty of caring about the small version. Nine is the last single digit, which is why tradition gave it this meaning. That is a fact about arithmetic, not about anyone's life.

How the number is reached
Take 1940-01-03. Summing every digit of the date gives 18 → 9, so the whole-date convention returns 9. Reducing the month, day and year separately first gives 1 + 3 + 5 = 9, so the component convention returns 9 — the same answer.
How often it happens
Across 28,896 birth dates — days 1 to 28 of every month from 1940 to 2025 — life path 9 comes up 3,212 times (11.1%) under the whole-date convention and 3,212 times (11.1%) under the component convention.
Within that sample the two conventions never disagree about this number.
What this does not tell you
